National Debt Relief is a company that helps people tackle their debt through various debt relief services.

Depending on your situation, services might include:

  • Negotiation with creditors
  • Debt consolidation loans

They provide a free consultation where you can discuss your financial situation and explore your options…allegedly without any obligation.

  • Retirement debt
  • Veteran debt
  • Business debt
  • Private student loans

Where Does National Debt Relief Operate?

National Debt Relief New Hampshire

As of March, 2024, and despite what the brand’s name implies, National Debt Relief doesn’t operate in all 50 states (I wouldn’t have known this if I didn’t call in to ask a few questions about pricing). When I asked which states they do operate in, the rep advised that I do a search for debt relief specifically in my state so I didn’t get a straight answer…not right away.

So, after the call, I put my research cap back on and checked with the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System. I found that National Debt Relief holds 14 state licenses in 13 states.

I can verify that they do legally operate in:

  1. Arizona
  2. California
  3. Idaho
  4. Illinois
  5. Iowa
  6. Maryland
  7. Minnesota
  8. Nevada
  9. New Hampshire
  10. North Dakota
  11. Pennsylvania
  12. Rhode Island
  13. Tennessee

And, in Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island, the company actively holds debt-specific licensing.

While you can apply for a consultation regardless of your location, you may be limited in the scope of services offered if you live outside of the states where they maintain licensure.

How Does National Debt Relief Work?

National debt relief actor

At first glance, it may seem like you’ll sign up to have your debt reduced without any work. But, that is not how these programs work.

So, here’s how national debt relief really works…

…First of all, their approach starts with a personalized debt relief plan tailored to your unique circumstances.

This might include negotiating with creditors to reduce the amount you owe and setting up a dedicated savings account where you make monthly deposits. These funds are then used to pay off your creditors at the negotiated reduced amounts.

Some participants might be offered a debt consolidation loan. The idea is that you would consolidate your high-interest debts into a new loan with a lower interest rate and pay less over time.

While the company boasts that you can be back to financial freedom and living your life within 24-48 months, that doesn’t mean you will be out of debt within 4 years. For example, a consolidation loan might take 7 years to pay off, but your payments or interest would hopefully be lowered.

There’s even a chance you’ll be referred to a bankruptcy attorney. In this case, some or all of your debt may be wiped out, but this could have a negative impact on your credit score for several years.

Keep in mind, debt relief is not the same as credit repair, and may have a negative impact on your credit score (many so-called credit repair programs can have a negative impact on your credit as well). And, you will need at least $7.5K in debt to qualify for their services.

How Much Does National Debt Relief Get Paid?

National Debt Relief Illinois

National Debt Relief charges a fee for their services, which is typically based on a percentage of the enrolled debt. This fee can vary depending on factors such as the state you reside in and the total amount of debt you owe.

On average, the fee usually falls within the range of 15% to 25% of the total enrolled debt. For example, if you enroll $10,000 in debt and the fee is 20%, then the fee would amount to $2,000.

Now, when I called in and asked specifics about the costs, the rep that I spoke with only disclosed that the fee is “built-in” to the plan and no services are rendered until all fees are agreed to.

So, if you make it to the proposal stage, do your own math before you sign up — Make sure that the amount you pay will in-fact be less than the interest and principal you would otherwise pay on your debts. And, keep in mind that debt settlement often has a negative impact on your credit report, and negative marks can remain for up to seven years.

It’s important to note that National Debt Relief operates on a performance-based fee structure – This means they are only supposed to collect their fee after they successfully negotiate a settlement with your creditors. Again, you will have the chance to approve the cost and the savings.

Company Overview

National Debt Relief LLC is a New York-based company that was founded in 2009 by Alex Kleyner, Daniel Tilipman, Tom Leydiker. Kleyner is the current CEO, where he’s been full-time for the past 15+ years.

Prior to launching the company, Kleyner received a Bachelor’s degree from Pace University

Tilipman remains on National Debt Relief’s executive board, and went on to found Reach Financial — a debt consolidation loan provider  — in 2022. This makes me wonder if National Debt Relief offers consolidation loans in partnership with Reach.

Leydiker is also still with the company. Before co-founding the company, he was a branch manager at Citibank and President and CEO of Continental Funding, LLC.

The leadership seems strong, especially considering that most employees (according to Glassdoor) would recommend the company to a friend in need of a job. What staff thinks of a company speaks volumes, and 75% of National Debt Relief’s Workers approve of the CEO.

With that said, you also have to look at what clients think of a company before you can really judge. Like all financial offers, National Debt Relief gets mixed reviews.

They are A+ rated and accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but this is despite 124 complaints in the past year. Still, 3,385 customers give them a 4.73-star rating. I do like these numbers.

National Debt Relief is rated nearly as high on Trustpilot (4.7 stars) and platform reviewers are mostly very satisfied with the services they receive.

Plus, even Redditors have generally objective opinions about the company – they are typically the toughest crowd on the internet to impress.

Note that some anonymous commenters do recommend you side-step these guys and go straight to a government agency or attorney for your own protection (which are definitely avenues worth exploring).

Now, there is a new class action lawsuit against National Debt Relief that claims they collect users’ IP addresses without consent – note, this has nothing to do with the way they handle clients’ finances. And, keep in mind, the jury is still out…literally.

Some of National Debt Relief’s services are offered in-house and other advertised relief solutions are made by referral. Now, I didn’t see any affiliate links or affiliate disclosures on their site – this could mean that they will refer you out to someone without earning any commission, but I can’t be sure.

1. Free Consultation

If you reach out and apply for services from National Debt Relief, the first thing you can expect is a call from a rep who will listen to your situation, ask questions and start to formulate a plan.

At this stage, I only recommend you watch out for high-pressure sales tactics. This is always a bad sign. But, a phone call is a low-risk way to explore whether an offer is going to be a good fit for you. Your mantra for any sales call should be, “I’m in the driver’s seat.”

2. Personalized Debt Relief Plan

How to cancel national debt relief

National Debt Relief will need to know about all of your debts before they can make a recommendation on how to tackle them.

So, list out all of your debts:

  • Credit cards
  • Lines of credit
  • Personal loans
  • Medical bills
  • Collections
  • Repossessions
  • Student loans
  • Business debts

And, be prepared to let the rep take some time to come up with a tailored plan.

3. Credit Counseling & Education

National debt relief email

Credit counseling might be beneficial if you are able to make monthly payments, but struggle with debt management. It’s ideal if you’re seeking a structured plan to handle debt effectively, negotiate lower interest rates, and consolidate payments.

Additionally, counseling offers valuable financial education on budgeting and responsible credit use. Credit counseling might be suitable if you want to avoid bankruptcy and are willing to actively participate in the counseling process to achieve financial stability.

In addition to the counseling services they offer, National Debt Relief offers quite a few educational resources – primarily a comprehensive blog that discusses all matters debt, lifestyle, and financial wellness-related. If you want to learn about debt consolidation, or bankruptcy, their blog is full of useful information.

Plus, their articles are laid out in a way that’s simple to navigate and written in an easy-to-understand tone.

Moreover, they have quite a few calculators to help you figure out your situation.

National debt relief cancellation form

Calculators include accelerated debt payoff, consolidation loan investment, cost of debt, credit card minimum payment, and more.

If you decide to take a DIY approach, or even if you choose another service, I do recommend you peek in at National Debt Relief’s resources. They share most of the basics of debt and finances – And, I think this is a great knowledge base for anyone looking to sharpen their debt and financial wellness chops.

4. Debt Negotiation With Creditors

National debt relief scholarship

Debt negotiation, or debt settlement, might be a good fit if you have significant unsecured debt you can’t fully repay – this could be due to financial hardship like job loss or medical emergencies. It’s suitable for those unable to qualify for consolidation loans or facing collections or legal action.

Debt negotiation provides an alternative to bankruptcy, helping stop collection calls and lawsuits by reaching settlements with creditors. However, it’s not ideal for everyone, and careful evaluation of your financial situation is essential before pursuing this option.

5. Debt Consolidation Loans

National debt relief bbb consolidation loans

Debt consolidation can be a suitable option if you have multiple debts, such as credit card balances, personal loans, or medical bills…and are looking for a more manageable way to repay them. It might be beneficial if you want to streamline your debt by combining multiple payments into a single monthly payment (usually at a lower interest rate).

This type of debt relief can help you simplify your finances and potentially save money on interest payments over time. And, it’s a good fit if you have a steady income and can afford to make consistent monthly payments towards your consolidated debt.

6. Bankruptcy Referrals

National debt relief vs bankruptcy

Bankruptcy might be a viable option if you’re facing overwhelming debt that you cannot repay, even with debt management strategies like credit counseling or debt negotiation. It might also be good if you’re experiencing severe financial hardship, such as job loss, medical expenses, or divorce. Sometimes, these situations can make it impossible to meet debt obligations.

Bankruptcy provides a legal process for individuals to eliminate or restructure debts and obtain a fresh financial start. It may also be appropriate if you’re at risk of foreclosure or wage garnishment. However, bankruptcy has long-term consequences, including a negative impact on your credit score and potential loss of assets. So, it’s essential to carefully consider the decision and seek legal advice before filing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you cancel National Debt Relief?

Yes, you can cancel your enrollment with National Debt Relief at any time. They understand that circumstances may change, and you have the right to discontinue their services if you wish.

How can you cancel National Debt Relief?

To cancel National Debt Relief, you can contact their customer service team either by phone or email. They will guide you through the cancellation process and provide any necessary documentation or instructions.

Do I get my money back if I cancel National Debt Relief?

If you cancel National Debt Relief, you may be entitled to a refund of funds you’ve deposited into your dedicated savings/escrow account, minus any fees earned for services rendered up to that point. The specific refund policy may vary depending on the terms outlined in your agreement.

Does National Debt Relief hurt your credit?

When you stop making payments to creditors and enter into negotiations for debt settlement, it can be reflected on your credit report. The long-term effects of debt settlement on your credit score can vary depending on your circumstances. Discuss the potential impact with a legal and financial professional and consider all your options before enrolling.

Conclusion: Is National Debt Relief Legit?

The percentage-based pricing model seems higher than what you might expect from a debt relief program. If you paid a separate credit repair company to clean up your report for, say, $170 per month, the cost could add up fast. But, if you save 25% off your debt, and National Debt Relief charges you 20% of your enrolled debt to do it, is it really worth it?

In the case that you’ll save 50%, a 25% fee might make sense. Be sure to read the fine print before you make any commitments.  I don’t know whether National Debt Relief charges before or after debt is negotiated, which could vary on a case-by-case basis.

If you’ve got a lot of collections that you want to clear up or negative items you need removed from your report, a credit repair company, an attorney, or a DIY approach might be cheaper alternatives.

In all, though, I like this offer. The company seems to be legit, they’ve been in business long enough to be reputable, and the BBB likes them. Other than the potential expense, I don’t see any glaring red flags that would make me tell you to run for the hills.

My only advice is to do your research. Learn about all of your options before you apply for relief from debt. And, if you don’t have at least $7.5K in debt, you will need to look elsewhere. Good luck on your journey to financial freedom.

Now, let’s dive in!

What is 1-800Accountant?

1800 accountant

1-800Accountant is an online accounting service powered by real Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) – They offer a range of services aimed at helping small businesses with various accounting needs.

Their services include assistance with:

  • Starting a business
  • Selecting the right entity for tax savings
  • Handling business taxes to maximize refunds
  • Simplifying payroll processes
  • Managing day-to-day bookkeeping tasks

Their team of CPAs is knowledgeable about different industries and state regulations, so they provide tailored advice and solutions for businesses.

And, they offer a satisfaction guarantee. They allow you to request a refund within the first 30 days if they are not satisfied with the service provided.

How Much Does 1-800Accountant Cost?

1800accountant pricing

1-800Accountant operates on a flat-rate pricing model, which ensures transparent and predictable costs without hourly fees.

Prices range from $179-399 per month and up. Costs are billed annually, so you can expect to pay between $2,148 and $4,788 to sign up.

Here’s a breakdown of what you get for each price point:

  1. Business plan ($179/mo):
    • Access to the online portal
    • Dedicated accountant
    • Year-round tax advice
    • Proactive tax planning
    • Quarterly reviews
    • Financial planning
  2. Corporation plan ($239/mo):
    • Everything in the Business plan, plus:
    • Bookkeeping software
    • Business tax preparation
    • Personal tax preparation
  3. Enterprise plan ($399/mo):
    • Everything in the Corporation plan, plus:
    • Dedicated bookkeeper
    • Priority support
    • Financial reports

There’s also a Custom Package option available if you don’t find exactly what you need in the standard plans. And, prices can fluctuate based on your state.

While there is’t a free trial, you have 30 days to request a refund.

Comparatively, according to SmartAsset, you can expect to pay a CPA between $1K and $1.5K just to do your business and personal taxes in the U.S.. And, Forbes Advisor says you can expect to pay between $150 and $250 per hour to hire a CPA, depending on your location. Personally, I’ve seen rates as low as $37 and as high as $500 per hour being charged.

Hiring a CPA is one of those gray areas in business where you can’t really predict expected costs until you get into it (which makes the flat-rate pricing model pretty appealing).

Company Overview

1-800 accountant reviews

It’s particularly important to know about the company behind the brands you work with when your business finances are at play.

1-800Accountant, aka 1-800-Accountant.com Corp, is a New York-based business that was founded in 1999 by Mike Savage. Savage is currently the Chairman of the Executive Board. The same year 1-800Accountant was launched, Savage became a CPA. And, he apparently graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

1800accountant customer service

Currently, the Key Principal of the company is Michael Rosedale. Like Savage, Rosedale is also listed as the Chairman on the company’s Dun & Bradstreet profile. But, Rosedale doesn’t list his affiliation with the company on LinkedIn.

However, Rosedale does show-off some pretty impressive accounting credentials. He’s the current Chairman & Co-Founder of NARSSA, President & Founder of CPAdirectory, and previous President of the National Directory of Registered Tax Return Preparers and Professionals.

Who owns 1-800Accountant?

1-800Accountant’s address is listed as a Regus office in Manhattan at 260 Madison Avenue, Suite 1001. Regus is a coworking space, which tells me the team is either particularly small or primarily remote – 404 Glassdoor votes signal that it’s the latter.

In fact, 75% of employees would recommend a job with the company to a friend, and it has an overall 4-star internal rating.

1800accountant employee reviews

Despite their 3.75-star rating and 130 complaints closed in the last year, they maintain an A- rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

1800accountant reviews bbb

Of course, when it comes to finances, people are more likely to speak out about a poor experience than they are a positive one.

Overall, Trustpilot reviewers are nicer, giving the platform an overall rating of 4.6 stars. But, not all of the feedback is great. Some customers claim rights violations, and others say they were stood up for meetings.

1800accountant reviews complaints

Normally, with this much info, I would try to wrap up the company section, but there’s more to say. Redditors have shared their complaints from mishandled taxes to poor quality advice and more – customer service tends to be a common topic of grievance.

1800accountant reviews reddit

However, keep in mind, they’ve had positive feedback as well (head over to Trustpilot to see the full array). I don’t know if there was a period where positive reviews were incentivised, or if it presents a better unbiased sample of experiences.

What I do know is that in 2013 – which was over a decade ago – the FTC filed a complaint for permanent injunction in Florida and New York. This complaint alleged that 1-800Accountant and other remote tax services were in violation of several federal regulations.

1800accountant lawsuit

Ideally, the wrongs would have been remedied by now, which I assume is the case since several of the companies are still in business.

So, on the bright side, the company is still in business, registered, and active in the state of New York. There are no open legal grievances currently. And, the original founder is still with the company.

On the other hand, I came across a lot of complaints.

But, let’s find out what exactly 1-800Accountant offers so that you know for sure whether you want to give them a shot!

What Does 1-800Accountant Do?

Now, let’s explore the full offer from 1-800 Accountant so you can see if you can make it worth your while to sign up. If you don’t need all of the services, it’s feasible that you could save money by going a different route. But, if you’re likely to utilize all or most of the services, the platform could provide major cost and time savings.

1. Start Your Business

1800accountant google reviews

1-800Accountant assists in setting up your business as either an LLC or Corporation – They offer a straightforward and efficient process for entity formation, to guide you through the necessary steps with expertise.

They say that this can potentially result in significant cost savings over time. The reason this is true is because if you file appropriately, you can maximize your tax savings at the end of the year.

They often have special offers available for starting at a low cost or $0 plus state fees. Additionally, they handle the filing of your business license directly with the Secretary of State, ensuring compliance with state regulations.

Overall, 1-800Accountant simplifies the process of filing your business and offers assistance to navigate the complexities of entity formation.

2. File Your EIN

1800accountant reviews yelp

For $99, 1-800Accountant will file for your employer identification number (EIN) through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). You need this to get a business bank account, file business taxes, and get business financing.

Many companies charge a hefty fee for this service, but it’s super easy to do yourself. Instead of paying a fee, you can just visit the IRS website and apply with your business info. An EIN is free.

→ Here’s where to apply.

If you need them, you can find EIN filing instructions here.

The only common hurdle that I know of is that you need to file during weekday business hours. So, just check in on Monday through Friday between 9:00 to 5:00, and you should be able to get this situated quickly. Otherwise, the application may be offline.

If you want the EIN filing service and you’re willing to pay almost $100 (which actually seems to be the going rate), then cool. But, I don’t see why you would need to.

Look at your budget, your needs, and explore all of your options before you commit to any CPA or business financial service. Ask around to see who your colleagues use, and check out online forums to find out what offer might be best for you.

Don’t rule out local CPAs, especially if you’d prefer in-person meetings – you won’t get any in-person meetings with a remote service, and this is important for some business owners.

What’s the Best Payment Processor for a Small Business? Really

March 19, 2024 By Joe

Best Payment Processor for Small Business

If you plan to accept payments (and I really hope you do since the whole point of business is to generate revenue), you will need a way to process them. Unless you’re a cash-only company, you undoubtedly need a solution to help you get the money you’re owed into your bank.

And, as of a couple of years ago, 43% of Americans said they never walk around with cash. Cash-only businesses could inconvenience and deter a large portion of their potential customer base.

This is where a payment processor becomes an invaluable resource…but, there are so many options. So, how are you supposed to know which one to go with? You should be able to answer that question by the time you finish reading this.

Now, let’s roll!

What is a Payment Processor?

A payment processor is a service provider that facilitates electronic transactions – this enables you to accept payments from customers. Smooth and secure credit card processing is crucial in small business.

When a customer makes a purchase, the payment processor handles the payment:

  • Authorization
  • Processing
  • Settlement

Payment processors offer a range of services tailored to small businesses, including accepting various payment methods like credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payments…Some also provide tools to manage transactions, generate reports, monitor sales activity, and even get business funding.

They help you maintain a professional approach to collect payments and simplify the process. Bonus points if they give you insights into your business’ financial transactions (most modern payment processors do).

What is the Difference Between Payment Gateway and Payment Processor?

A payment gateway facilitates the secure transfer of payment data between the merchant’s website and the payment processor. Examples include PayPal, Stripe, and Authorize.Net.

The payment processor handles the actual authorization, settlement, and movement of funds between the customer’s bank and the merchant’s bank. Examples include First Data, Worldpay, and Adyen.

In short, the payment gateway is the interface between the merchant and the payment processor, ensuring secure transmission of payment data, while the payment processor technically manages the transaction’s financial aspects.

However, for the sake of relevance, I want to focus on gateways, which is what most small businesses refer to as “payment processors.” Gateways tend to refer to themselves as payment processors because they use technology to connect you to the processor.

Let’s dive into the best solutions to accept payments as a small business.

The Benefits of a Local Payment Company

Best payment processor for small business in usa

You might want to opt for a local payment company to take advantage of several perks, especially when you might need personalized service and hands-on support – Local payment companies often provide individualized assistance tailored to your needs.

Local companies are more likely to offer:

  • Face-to-face meetings
  • On-site support
  • Customized solutions
  • Flexible pricing, terms, or services

With a local payment company, you’re apt to receive prompt and attentive customer service (though it’s not guaranteed). Typically, a local payment company will understand relevant market dynamics and can address your concerns quickly.

Working with a local company can also provide more ease in communication due to shared time zones, language, and cultural understanding…you can get smoother collaboration and problem-solving.

They might even tailor solutions to suit your specific requirements. For example, a local provider might create a custom integration to work with your existing systems – which isn’t typical of enterprise solutions.

Moreover, supporting a local business fosters a sense of community and strengthens local economies. It establishes a mutually beneficial relationship where both parties can thrive (this is the same reason I love credit unions and small community banks over big banks).

Best card payment processor for small business

To find a local payment company, search online for relevant offers in your area. Try searching for POS (which stands for “point of sale”), card readers, merchant services, or merchant processors in your town or region. Most companies who offer POS devices/card readers can also help you process payments.

If you don’t have any luck on that route, just ask for recommendations. Attend networking events and/or inquire at your local Chamber of Commerce. Then, reach out directly to potential candidates and check references from previous clients.

Through a bit of research (and engagement), you can find a local payment company that aligns with your business goals and provides the support and services you need.

Now, you don’t have to use a local provider. If you’re more interested in convenience and simplicity, there’s no shame in joining the millions of small business owners who use national payment processors.

Unlike most local payment companies, a larger payment processing solution is likely to let you set up an account online in a matter of minutes. They will typically ship you out a card reader that you can have in about a week, and you can hook it up all on your own.

Enterprise payment gateways are known for convenience – the modern technology they employ is ever-evolving to meet the needs of their users. Plus, larger companies tend to have more resources to invest in the latest tech sooner rather than later.

And, most of them offer business funding based on your account transactions. Let’s explore the top enterprise-level small business payment processing solutions.

What is Small Business Insurance?

Small business insurance is like a safety net for your business—you know, just in case things don’t go as planned. It’s there to help cover your back when unexpected events come knocking. Basically, it’s a bundle of different insurance policies tailored to fit the needs of small businesses like yours.

With small business insurance, you’re not just protecting your business’s physical assets; you’re also safeguarding yourself from:

  • Liability claims
  • Employee injuries
  • Legal hassles

Think of it as a shield against the unknown, to give you peace of mind knowing that you’re covered no matter what life throws your way. Whether it’s property damage, a slip-and-fall accident, or a lawsuit from a disgruntled customer, having the right insurance can make all the difference.

So, while it might seem like any other expense, small business insurance is typically a smart move to protect what you’ve worked so hard to build…But, that depends on whether you need the specific coverage.

What are the Requirements for Business Insurance in New Jersey?

New Jersey small business insurance

So, when it comes to running your business in New Jersey, there are a handful of insurance requirements you need to keep in mind to cover both you and your employees.

 Let’s break it down:

  • Most businesses, except for sole proprietors with no employees, need Workers Comp. Check with your insurance provider or the Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau for details.
  • If you’ve got employees, you need to follow the New Jersey Family Leave Act. This means they can take leave for things like caring for a new child or a family member with a serious health issue. You will need coverage to fund this.
  • You’ve also gotta pay disability insurance taxes and provide info when employees need to file for disability benefits. You can choose coverage through the state plan or a private one.
  • And, you need to have unemployment insurance – It helps workers who lose their jobs or work less than full-time due to lack of work.
  • While it’s not a must by state law, offering health or life insurance to your employees is typically a good move. You can find resources through the Department of Banking & Insurance or the state’s health insurance marketplace.
  • If you’ve got 20 or more employees with health benefits, you also need to offer continuation of coverage under federal law (COBRA) – Smaller businesses have state continuation options.

Additional types of coverage may be needed based on industry requirements and business needs. Review New Jersey’s employer requirements to understand what the state expects from you.

Note: Effective January 8, 2024, businesses with outstanding liabilities for wage, benefit (including insurance infractions), or tax law violations risk being placed on the Workplace Accountability and Labor List, “The WALL.” If your company is listed on the wall, you’ll be ineligible for public contracting opportunities with State, county, or local governments until all liabilities are settled.

For help making sure you’re in compliance with workplace laws, you can reach out to the New Jersey Department of Labor at wagehour@dol.nj.gov.

Do small businesses in NJ have to offer health insurance?

Small business health insurance new jersey

Small businesses in New Jersey are not legally required to offer health insurance to their employees. Unlike some states that have specific mandates for employer-sponsored health insurance, New Jersey does not have such requirements for small businesses.

So, the decision for a small business (with fewer than 50 employees) to offer health insurance is typically voluntary and depends on factors like your budget and desire to attract and retain talent.

In New Jersey, the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) is a handy tool for small businesses with 1–50 employees. SHOP helps you offer private insurance to your team. And, you can usually enroll any time of year.

You may want to offer health insurance as part of your employee benefits package because:

  1. Health insurance can make your company more competitive in the job market and help attract and retain qualified employees.
  2. Providing health insurance demonstrates your commitment to employee well-being and can lead to higher job satisfaction and staff morale.
  3. You may qualify for tax incentives, such as the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit, if you offer health insurance to employees – this might save you up to 50% of what you contribute as an employer.
  4. Access to health insurance can help your employees stay healthy and address medical issues promptly, which could lead to fewer missed days and increased productivity.

If you choose to offer health insurance, work with insurance brokers or agents to explore available options and find coverage that meets your needs and budget.

What is the Minimum Liability Insurance in New Jersey?

If you’re cruising around the Garden State, you gotta have liability insurance with minimum coverage limits of 15/30/5. That means $15,000 for each person injured in an accident, up to $30,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $5,000 for property damage.

If you’re running a business, you’ll need workers’ comp insurance to take care of your employees if they get injured on the job – this includes behind the wheel. The coverage amounts depend on things like your payroll and what your business is all about.

While it’s not a must-do by law, having general liability insurance is a smart move for businesses. It helps cover you if there are claims of injury, property damage, or other mishaps.

Remember, the exact coverage you need can vary, so it’s best to chat with an insurance expert to make sure you’ve got the right protection for your situation.

How Much Does Northwest Registered Agent Cost?

Pricing for Northwest Registered Agent varies based on what you need.

You can create an account for free, which gives you access to an ‘Entity Management System’ where you can populate forms at no cost. And, you won’t be signed up for drip marketing campaigns or newsletters to use the tools.

Now, when you get into your account, you will enter information about your prospective or existing business, and the system will recommend registration or compliance next steps.

This is when you will be offered paid services.

But, you don’t have to take advantage of these services. In fact, the system will offer details and instructions for how or where to file certain forms on your own or take advantage of their agency services – it’s pretty cool.

Northwest Registered Agent Company Overview

Who owns Northwest Registered Agent?

Spokane, Washington-based Northwest Registered Agent – also known as Bonanzitizing LLC — is a for-profit, privately-held company that was founded in 1998. In 2022, the company acquired AAEusocial Interweb Technologies.

Beyond that, it’s not super easy to find out solid information about company ownership or management. However, I found that Dan Keen was previously the President of the company. And, Dan VanGouden (if this is, in fact, a real person) is the “Chief Incompetence Officer.” 🤔

With this type of business, I can understand how it could be helpful to stay anonymous in-part…You don’t want your clients’ complaints to fall back on you. Plus, the staff directory is hilarious.

Northwest Registered Agent Spokane reviews

I haven’t found any major red flags from online reviews, but Trustpilot reviews are mostly indicative of a mid-range experience. Keep in mind, people are way more likely to complain than report satisfactory service. So, take this how you will.

Northwest Registered Agent reviews BBB

While they’re not accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Northwest Registered Agent maintains an A rating and 4.55 out of 5 stars on the platform – This is despite 35 complaints closed in the past 3 years and 15 in the past 12 months (which are actually low numbers).

Northwest Registered Agent BBB

In all, the company appears to be legit – they’re actively registered in good standing in Washington state. I see no open class actions against them. But, since I haven’t used them myself, I can’t expressly recommend or vouch for them.

With that said, their offer is interesting and I like what I see.

What Does Northwest Registered Agent Do?

At Northwest Registered Agent, you’ll find a range of helpful services to support your business journey. The offer is pretty robust. And, it might be helpful before you’ve ever registered and if you’ve already been in business for some time.

Let’s break down everything they might be able to help you with.

1. Business Formation & Maintenance

Northwest Registered Agent LLC

When you’re ready to kickstart your business, Northwest Registered Agent can assist you with setting up your LLC or corporation. They’ll guide you through the process and help you stay on top of annual filings and other maintenance tasks to keep your business running smoothly.

While the company doesn’t advertise Sole Proprietorship registration, they do mention DBAs. If you need help filing, there’s only one risk in using these services – if you never actively participate in a business that is filed with a business service, you may be charged annually until you close the business yourself.

2. Registered Agent Services

northwest registered agent customer service

With Northwest Registered Agent as your registered agent, you can rest easy with the idea that your legal correspondence will be handled promptly and confidentially. They’ll accept important documents on behalf of your business, to ideally make sure that you don’t miss critical communications.

You can be your own registered agent, certainly. But there are some instances where you may not want to be or it may be better for someone else to handle important filing deadlines.

A registered agent also enables you to keep your name private from business filings (which can be good or bad). Some consumers will do their due diligence before choosing to purchase from a business, and they may want to know that you’re transparent about your operations – for some businesses, this isn’t a concern.

3. Federal Filings Assistance

Northwest Registered Agent LLC reviews

Navigating federal filings can be tricky, but Northwest Registered Agent is here to help. Whether you need to obtain an EIN, elect S Corporation tax status, or file Beneficial Ownership Reports, they can help ensure that you’re on track.

However, many federal filings are free to file. So, you should be sure you actually need help before you pay for someone else to file for you.

For example, Northwest Registered Agent offers BOI filing through the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network for $9 and EIN filing through the Internal Revenue Service for $50. Both of these forms are free to file through their respective agencies.

If you want to file yourself:

  • File your BOI through the Financial Crimes Enforcement Agency
  • Apply for an EIN through the Internal Revenue Service (must be during normal business hours)

If you want help, a registered agent service can make the process faster and maybe more convenient.

4. Online Presence & eCommerce Solutions

Why choose Northwest Registered Agent?

In today’s digital world, having a strong online presence is crucial. Northwest Registered Agent offers a range of solutions to help you establish and grow your online presence, including domain registration, website hosting, email services, and SSL certificates for secure transactions.

Northwest Registered Agent doesn’t advertise which tools they use to help companies establish their online presence. But, I did find out that their “open-source websites” are built in WordPress.

Now, I love WordPress, but I never recommend it for business owners without any tech savvy – it is strictly free, but it’s not the easiest platform to navigate…at all. Even if you are proficient in digital technology, WordPress almost undoubtedly comes with the need to hire help to fix and maintain the website.

And, many of the tools needed for a fully-functional WordPress website come with an added monthly cost. Not to mention, WordPress usually isn’t the best platform for eCommerce (online product sales).

Do your research and explore multiple website building solutions before you choose your website platform.

Note: An online presence is also crucial to establish business credit…

5. Expansion & Trademark Services

Northwest Registered Agent Trademark services

When you’re ready to expand your business or protect your brand with trademarks, Northwest Registered Agent can assist you every step of the way. From adding DBA names to securing federal trademark filings, they’ll help you navigate the process with ease.

Trademarks are an especially complex route to navigate, especially if you’ve never been on it before.

In my experience patent & trademark attorneys tend to charge from $500 to $1K for a single filing, not including U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) fees. These fees typically run from $250-350 per filing. The costs – both fiscal and mental – can add up pretty quickly.

Through Northwest Registered Agent, you can get trademark filing assistance for $249. This service is definitely worth looking into if you need a trademark, but don’t know where to start.

6. Legal Support & Compliance

Northwest Registered Agent Legal Services

Staying compliant with state and federal regulations is crucial for business success. Northwest Registered Agent’s dedicated legal team can provide expert guidance and support to ensure you’re meeting all your legal obligations.

Moreover, when you first sign up, the platform can help you do a quick compliance check to see what you may need to stay above water. It’s super easy to get lost in the sea of business regulations, and smart to have a service that helps keep your business in line.

If nothing else, I see no harm in creating a free account with Northwest Registered Agent, just to see if you’ve filed everything you need to meet federal business regulations.

“Law On-Call” is an added service for active Registered Agent users that costs $9 per month and puts you in touch with a legal expert that can answer your personalized business questions.

Topics might include:

  • Business employment
  • Contracts
  • Entity formation
  • Nonprofit corporate bylaws

On this matter, I’d say the price is right.

7. Payment Processing Solutions

Northwest Registered Agent Payment Processing

Accepting credit cards is super important for businesses looking to increase revenue and reach more customers. Northwest Registered Agent offers a free consultation, which can make it easier for you to accept credit card payments and grow your bottom line.

I didn’t see which card processor(s) Northwest Registered Agent might work with, if any. So, this consultation may be a complimentary service.

The website also has a lot of information that explains how to accept credit cards, including how to sign up with a merchant account.

8. Phone & Mail Services

Maintaining a professional image and ensuring privacy are important for businesses of all sizes. Northwest Registered Agent offers dedicated business phone numbers and addresses, as well as mail forwarding services, to help you stay organized and project a professional image to your customers.

Northwest Registered Agents’ business addresses are advertised as “free,” though you will pay a fee for added services like:

  • Mail forwarding (not available in all states)
  • Opening & scanning

Phone service costs an added $9 per month, and is hosted through an app called Corporate Phone® – Its a voice over internet protocol (VOIP) service. The price is competitive as Google Voice charges $10 for a comparable service.

9. Corporate Supplies

Keeping your business documents organized and professional is key.

Northwest Registered Agent offers a variety of corporate supplies, including:

  • Premium operating agreements
  • Customized certificates
  • Embossing seals
  • Notary stamps
  • GoBooks (zip-binders)

These products might help you maintain accurate records (and present a polished image to stakeholders). While you can get them anywhere, their prices may be a little high.

For example, Northwest Registered Agent charges $100 for a corporate kit, while you can get them for between $50-70 from various suppliers.

The trade-off is that getting supplies through a platform that already has all the required information about your business is much simpler and requires fewer steps.

Conclusion: Is Northwest Registered Agent Legit?

Overall, Northwest Registered Agent is legitimate, yes. Their services are pretty straightforward, comprehensive, and impressively non-gimmicky. I like this offer…a lot.

The main downside that I found is that the site and platform aren’t super easy to navigate, if you want to bounce around. However, you can still have a comprehensive experience if you move through the online onboarding process the way it’s initially laid out.

No-Doc Business Loans with EIN Only: Get Funds Without Proof of Income

March 4, 2024 By Joe

no doc business loans with EIN only

Lots of online lenders offer no-doc business loans, and some even advertise how easy it is to apply and get hundreds of thousands of dollars within 24 hours. With these lenders, you’ll usually pay a lot more in interest or factor rates in the long run. But, there are reputable lenders with competitive interest rates that offer loans that don’t require documentation.

Here, I’ll explain what no doc business loans are, in detail, and how to get yourself set up to obtain one. And, I’ll share a list of the established banks that offer no doc business loans as well as how to apply.

Now, let’s get crackin!

What are No-Doc Business Loans?

what is a no doc loan for business?

A no-doc business loan or a “stated-income” loan is a type of loan where the borrower is not required to provide the documentation typically required for traditional business loans. “No-doc” is short for “no documentation.” And, stated-income essentially means that you “state” or say what your income is on the application.

These loans and lines of credit are often sought by small business owners or entrepreneurs who may not have all the paperwork or financial records to prove their business income. While these loans may offer more flexibility in terms of documentation requirements, they can come with a catch.

For example, popular online lenders can offer higher interest rates and stricter repayment terms to offset the increased risk to the lender. A good example is a merchant cash advance where a portion of daily income goes toward repayment. However a select few legitimate banks do offer no-doc, traditional business loans at competitive rates.

Keep in mind, no-doc loans are not intended as a means to secure startup business loans with no revenue. If your business is pre-revenue, you may have better luck entering an accelerator like Y Combinator, exploring grants for niche businesses, or tapping into your personal capital.

What Banks Offer No-Doc Business Loans?

what banks do no doc business loans?

A cornerstone of getting a business loan without sharing income documentation is to find the banks that offer them. You can establish your business and build your business credit, but you can’t get the funds without a lender. And, as you’ve probably found if you’ve done any searching, these banks don’t advertise.

Now, tons of online lenders like FundBox, OnDeck, and Lendio can get you no-doc loans…with higher-than-necessary factoring and interest rates. But, you’ll get the best rates with actual banks, which are harder to find (but they do exist)

So, what banks do no-doc business loans? I’ve been doing this for over a decade now…and keeping track of the best offers. Here’s my list of ten actual banks that offer no-doc and “low-doc” loans for businesses.

1. Celtic Bank (Bluevine)

what loans don't ask for bank statements?

While Bluevine is frequently touted as a source for no-doc business loans, and they do offer business checking accounts and loans, Bluevine isn’t actually a bank. Their loans are serviced through Celtic Bank. And, they’re pretty close to “no-doc.”

If you apply for a business loan through Bluevine.com, you can get approved for up to $250K without providing documentation.

But, the catch is that you’ll have to connect to your bank through Plaid. So, Bluevine and Celtic Bank will have access to your business transactions, which are required to qualify for a loan. i.e. You need to show that your business has the ability to repay the loan.

Here’s How to Apply for No-Doc Business Loans

no doc loans for llc

At this point, you might still be wondering how to get a business loan without proof of income. Well, it’s not all that much different than getting any other business loan — The main difference is in the preparation.

To apply for a no-doc business loan, follow these general steps:

  1. Look for lenders that offer no-doc business loans and compare their terms, interest rates, and eligibility requirements.
  2. While no-doc loans require minimal documentation, you’ll still need to provide basic information about your business, such as its and revenue.
  3. Review the lender’s eligibility criteria to ensure your business meets their requirements, which may include factors like legal structure, industry, business credit score, revenue, and time in business.
  4. If needed, establish your business credit – Download our Business Credit Building Checklist if you need some guidance.
  5. Fill out the lender’s application form, providing the necessary information about your business and financial situation. Be honest and accurate in your responses. See our Free, Printable Business Credit Application Template if you’d like an example.
  6. While no-doc loans require minimal documentation, you may still need to provide some basic financial records, such as connecting your business checking account with Plaid – this depends on the lender’s underwriting requirements.
  7. Once you’ve submitted your application and any required documentation, wait for the lender to review your information and make a decision on your loan application.
  8. If approved, carefully review the terms and conditions of the loan, including interest rates, repayment terms, and any fees associated with the loan.
  9. If you’re satisfied with the terms, formally accept the loan offer from the lender.

Once the loan funds are disbursed, use them responsibly for the intended business purposes – Consider consulting with financial advisors or business consultants to ensure you choose the right financing option for your business needs.

No-Doc Business Loan Requirements

No-doc business loans and/or low-doc loans (which require some documents), have fewer documentation requirements compared to traditional business loans. However, the specific requirements vary depending on the lender and the type of loan.

Some general aspects of no-doc business loan requirements are:

  • Minimal documentation
  • A good personal and/or business credit score
  • Business revenue
  • Collateral
  • Business history
  • Personal guarantee
  • More exorbitant repayment terms when offered through online lenders

Always carefully review the terms and conditions of any loan offer and consider the potential risks before proceeding. This is especially true with any no-doc business loan, since they’re known to cost more in the long run.

Moreover, you should explore multiple financing options and consult with financial professionals to make sure your financing solutions align with your business goals and your expectations are realistic.

Are There No-Doc Business Loans With No Credit Check?

Let’s set this one straight right away. The answer is yes, but there’s a catch…a big one.

No-doc business loans without credit checks are rare and usually come with higher costs and risks. Be wary of lenders that offer these loans, as they are more likely to engage in predatory practices. Do your due diligence and seek professional advice before you ever commit to a loan like this.

You will get the best business financing options after you establish and build your business credit.

To get a no-doc loan from a reputable bank, you’ll need a good business credit score. So, you’ll need to build it.

And, there are a handful of key items you’ll need to establish your business credit:

  • Established business with a low-risk NAICS code
  • Employer Identification Number (EIN)
  • DUNS Number
  • Business checking account
  • Credible online business presence
  • Trade lines linked to your business — net 30 accounts

Frequently Asked Questions

Do business loans require bank statements?

Yes, many lenders require bank statements as part of the documentation process for business loans. Bank statements help lenders assess your business’s financial health, cash flow, and ability to repay the loan.

Are no-doc loans still available?

Yep, some lenders still offer no-doc loans, but they are less common than traditional business loans. No-doc loans require minimal documentation, which makes them appealing for borrowers who may not have all the paperwork required for traditional loans.

Can I get a no doc business loan with bad credit?

It’s possible to get a no-doc business loan with bad credit, but it can be challenging. Lenders that offer no-doc loans without thorough credit checks often charge higher interest rates and fees to offset the increased risk. Always research lenders carefully and explore alternative financing options if you have bad credit.

How long does it take to get approved for a no-doc loan?

The time it takes to get approved for a no-doc loan can vary depending on the lender and the complexity of your application. In some cases, approval may be relatively quick, while in others, it may take several days or weeks. It’s best to check with the lender directly for an estimate of their approval timeline.

Can I get a business loan with a cosigner?

Yes, some lenders allow you to apply for a business loan with a cosigner, also known as a “guarantor.” A cosigner with strong credit and financial stability can help strengthen your loan application and improve your chances of approval. However, both you and the cosigner will be responsible for repaying the loan, so consider the implications carefully before you proceed.

Final Thoughts

Navigating the realm of no-doc business loans requires careful consideration and informed decision-making — These loans offer a pathway to financing for small business owners who may lack extensive documentation typically required by traditional lenders.

While they provide flexibility, no-doc loans from online lenders can come with higher costs and risks. However, with proper research, diligent preparation, and consideration of multiple financing options, you  can find funding solutions that fit your needs and fuel your business growth.

Remember to review each lender’s terms and conditions, seek professional advice when needed, and proceed with caution to ensure that your financing aligns with your goals.

ZenBusiness Company Overview

ZenBusiness Inc

When I first landed on the ZenBusiness website – before looking at the fine print – I assumed it was a Mark Cuban project. Come to find out, he’s a spokesperson, but doesn’t own the company.

Texas-based ZenBusiness Inc. (aka ZenBusiness PBC) was co-founded in 2015 by Art Flores, JC Glancy, Rafael Lopez, Ross Buhrdorf, Ryan Pitylak, Shanaz Hemmati. The company was officially registered with the Secretary of State by 2017. According to the state of Texas, Shabana Parvez is the most recently registered President and Director.

The company’s current CEO, Ross Buhrdorf, is a board member at the American National Bank of Texas and member of the Board of Trustees at Santa Fe Institute. He serves on other highly-recognized boards and invests in several entrepreneurial ventures.

Employees seem to like Buhrdorf. According to Glassdoor, 56% of ZenBusiness staff would recommend the company to a friend and 75% approve of the current leadership. In a perfect world, more people would be jazzed to work here, but the majority appear to be pretty pleased.

But, if you dig deeper, you’ll find that at least one employee has alleged discrimination against the company. A civil right employment discrimination lawsuit against ZenBusiness was filed in October, 2023…However, the jury is still out.

Despite 87 complaints closed in the past year, ZenBusiness is accredited with an A+ Better Business Bureau (BBB) Rating.

The operating agreement outlines rules and regulations governing your company’s operations, ownership, and succession plans. It helps protect personal assets, clarifies ownership structure, and defines voting rights.

Without an operating agreement, an LLC risks losing its limited liability status, potentially exposing personal assets to business liabilities. Additionally, the absence of clear guidelines can lead to misunderstandings between members.

Overall, ZenBusiness’ operating agreement service offers you a valuable tool to formalize your LLC’s governance structure objectively and safeguard your business interests.

3. Branding & Online Presence

ZenBusiness Logo Kit

Once your business is established with ZenBusiness, you can also get help with vital aspects of building out your brand presence.

Through your ZenBusiness dashboard, you can get:

  • Logo design for $60
  • Domain registration for $25 per year
  • Website building for $129 per year
  • A business email address for $25 per year

The alternatives would be to use a free online logo designer or hire a designer ($0-$500+), register your own domain through a host of your choice ($12-20 per year), build your own website or hire a web developer (from $3 per month to $10K+), and set up your own business email address through your domain provider ($5-$10 per month per email address).

I prefer a more customized approach that gives me full control (WordPress, Google Workspace, etc.), but I do see where these resources have huge value for people that don’t want to do the research or don’t know where to start. Plus, it could be extremely helpful to have everything in one dashboard.

4. Business Banking

ZenBusiness Bank Account

ZenBusiness offers FDIC-insured business banking for $5 per month – but ZenBusiness is NOT a bank. ZenBusiness banking is offered through Thread Bank.

Thread Bank offers digital-first banking services tailored for small businesses and busy individuals. With a focus on simplicity, speed, and connectivity, you can streamline everyday banking tasks.

Thread Bank’s offerings include:

  • No minimum balance
  • No overdraft fees
  • Easily accessible online account
  • Simple, secure, and paperless savings solutions

While not offered through a ZenBusiness account, Thread Bank also offers personal checking and savings products including Money Market Accounts (MMAs).

Personally, I prefer credit unions (for many reasons), but I don’t see any glaring red flags with this digital banking offer.

5. Business Credit Cards

What Does ZenBusiness Do?

Through ZenBusiness, you can apply for a Chase Business Ink card – either Business Unlimited®  or Business Cash®.

Judging by the way this landing page is set up, I assume ZenBusiness has some sort of affiliate partnership through Chase. If I’m right, this means that ZenBusiness gets a commission every time someone signs up through their website and is approved for the card.

I’m not aware of any type of relationship ZenBusiness could have with the card issuer that would make their members more likely to be approved – business credit is pretty cut and dry as far as underwriting is concerned.

You don’t need any type of affiliation to apply for a Chase credit card – so, you don’t really need ZenBusiness for this.

6. Business Planning & Education

ZenBusiness login

At no cost, ZenBusiness also offers educational resources for planning on topics like:

  • Business startup costs
  • Market research
  • Business plans
  • Licenses and permits
  • Government grants
  • Expanding to new locations

These resources are set up in a way that makes it appear that these offers may be individual services. Essentially, they’re relevant micro-learning modules.

Some of their more robust modules are 30-minute videos to teach you about

In all, these resources are very well organized and provide a lot of value. If you don’t want to use the offer, at least check out the resources because you’re sure to learn something.

7. Tools to Grow Your Business

ZenBusiness Money Pro

After you choose to establish your LLC with ZenBusiness, you can take advantage of quite a few offers designed to help you expand operations.

ZenBusiness’ growth tools include:

  • Compliance services starting at $199 per year
  • Registered agent starting at $199 per year
  • Annual report filing for $100
  • Business license and permit report for $99
  • Beneficial ownership filing services
  • Tax services for $49 per month
  • ZenBusiness Money Pro® bookkeeping and invoicing

While these offers are simple, the package you get with ZenBusiness is pretty comprehensive. It’s much more than a business registration service.

The fact that you can do all of this in one dashboard is pretty cool – the cost for some of it seems a little steep to me – but we all have our areas where we’re willing to pay more for the convenient option. What do you think?

Is Swyft Filings a Legitimate Company?

Swyft Filings LLC Reviews

Swyft Filings LLC is a Houston-based business that was founded in 2015 by Travis Crabtree. In 2021, it was acquired by a private equity firm, GreyLion Capital.

GreyLion Capital is also the parent company of Norwood Portable Sawmills, Metal-Era, and Delphon. GreyLion’s key holdings seem to be in the production industry, but Swyft Filings is still run by Crabtree.

Who owns Swyft Filings?

Crabtree’s previous experience as an attorney and adjunct media law professor put him in a strong position to run a business filing-related company. Fun fact: before studying law, Crabtree worked as a sports reporter and sports video journalist.

According to Glassdoor, most staff members are happy to work for Swyft Filings, would recommend their company to a friend, and approve of the CEO.

Reviews Swyft Filings

I think anonymous staff reviews are one of the most reliable ways to gauge a company’s internal ethics. In this case, Swyft definitely passes the test.

Swyft Filings isn’t accredited with or rated by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but they have plenty of customer reviews on the platform. They do have hundreds of BBB complaints closed in the past year, but this is pretty common with any popular offer that involves finance or business.

Should You Take Fora Financial Reviews With a Grain of Salt?

Fora Financial Reviews

Fora Financial is a pretty well-known source of small business funding. And, according to Trustpilot and other review sources, they’re also super well-rated. But, you and I both know that you can’t necessarily trust that all user reviews you see online are real…and not all online loans are legit.

So, let’s dive deep into Fora Financial’s offer, and see if we can get to the bottom of the issue. Find out if Fora’s offer is right for you.

Here’s what’s in store:

  • What is Fora Financial?
    • Fora Financial Loan Requirements
    • Is Fora Financial a Real Company?
  • What Does Fora Financial Do?
    • 1. Simple Application Process
    • 2. Speedy Turnaround
    • 3. Convenient Online Portal
    • 4. Repayment Terms up to 15 Months
    • 5. Small Business Loans
    • 6. Revenue Advances

  • Conclusion

Now, let’s go!

What is Fora Financial?

Fora Financial

Fora Financial is a financial services provider or alternative lender that specializes in funding solutions for small and medium-sized businesses — They provide options like small business loans with fixed payback schedules and revenue advances that adjust based on sales.

The application process is straightforward, typically involving an online application followed by a discussion with a “Capital Specialist” and, upon approval, receiving funds within a few days.

Their funding amounts range from a few thousand dollars up to $1.5 million (with no restrictions on how you use it). You might be able to qualify for 75 percent to 125 percent of your monthly gross sales.

And, you’ll probably pay between 15 and 20 cents per dollar with their repayment terms.

Fora Financial interest rates

Fora Financial caters to various industries and business needs, including cash flow management, equipment purchases, expansion, and more. Overall, they provide accessible financing options for businesses looking to address their funding needs.

Fora Financial Loan Requirements

Like other alternative funding, and compared to traditional business loans, Fora Financial’s requirements are fairly relaxed. You do need to meet some requirements, but the appeal is that these loans are pretty easy to get (In exchange, you pay higher fees over the duration of the loan).

Fora Financial reviews Reddit

You will need a personal credit score of at least 500 (with no open bankruptcies) to qualify. Most people can meet this requirement easily.

And, according to anecdotal evidence (what I found in various forums), your business must have at least $12K to $15K in gross monthly income and to have been established for at least three months.

Some lenders require several years in business, so their business requirements are nice. However, conventional business loans look at your business credit score, so there’s no impact to your personal credit utilization as long as you pay as agreed.

Is Fora Financial a Real Company?

Fora Financial LLC New York

I was surprised that people are wondering if the company is real. This one is easy to answer – yes, Fora Financial is an established business.

In fact, New York-based Fora Financial LLC was founded in 2008 by Daniel Smith and Jared Feldman. Back then, it was called Paramount Merchant Funding LLC (no relation to Paramount Payment Systems), and the name was changed in 2013.

Today, it’s a private-equity backed company that seems to be thriving.

Feldman is the current CEO of Fora, where he’s been for almost 16 years. Smith is also still with the company and previously spent 7 years as a board member of the Small Business Finance Association.

Who owns Fora Financial?

And, according to Glassdoor, most of Fora’s employees would refer a friend to the company and even more approve of company leadership.

Fora Financial employee reviews Glassdoor

How employees view a company really says a lot about its practices and overall internal ethics – in general, this one seems to have strong leadership.

But, how customers see a business can tell us even more. With that said, Fora maintains a 4.5-star rating on Trustpilot, where most of the poor reviews come from people who don’t have loans with the company.

On this platform, the most common complaints are the loan interest rates and difficulty getting in touch with a representative.

Fora Financial business loan reviews

Now, when you check out Fora Financial’s standing with the Better Business Bureau, you’ll find that they are an accredited business with an A+ Rating. They have had seven customer complaints in the past three years (this is a relatively low number).

Fora Financial BBB

In sum, they appear to have a legit offer that could be worth checking out if you’d have trouble with approval from a more conventional lender.

But, before you take that as a green light to go apply, you should know that – as of January 2024 – there is an open class action against Fora in which a data breach is being investigated.

In Fora’s defense, one of the world’s largest banks and even one of the three major credit bureaus have suffered data breaches.

What Does Fora Financial Do?

In a nutshell, Fora offers small business loans and revenue advances quickly through a fast application and approval process. But, let’s take a closer look at each major facet of the offer so you can understand exactly what you’re considering signing up for.

Within four to 24 hours of your application submission, if you seem to be a good candidate, Fora Financial will provide you with a funding recommendation. Once approved, you can expect to receive your funds in a lump sum within 24 to 72 hours – This allows you to start utilizing the funds for your business needs straight away.

Be sure to read terms and conditions carefully for any offer Fora might send. You need to be sure your business has the ability to pay back the loan on-time as agreed.

3. Convenient Online Portal

Fora Financial login

When it comes to applying and repayment, Fora has a convenient online portal that you can access through their website.

An online portal is convenient for business borrowers because it offers easy access to loan information, application processes, and account management from anywhere with internet access.

This means you can apply for loans, check your account status, and manage payments without needing to visit a physical location or wait on hold for customer service. It saves time and offers flexibility.

4. Repayment Terms up to 15 Months

Fora Financial repayment terms

Fora offers loans from $5K to $1.5M and repayment terms up to 15 months. This means that you will have over a year to either repay your loan or find a way to refinance it through a lower-interest lender.

And, Fora doesn’t penalize early repayment – in fact, Fora rewards responsible payment behavior. If you pay off your loan early, you’ll save money in most cases.

While this seems like a loan feature that should be standard, it’s not something you see with all online loans.

5. Small Business Loans

Fora Financial approval

Fora Financial offers small business loans that can turn your entrepreneurial dreams into reality. With loan amounts ranging from $5K to $1.5 million in working capital, you have the financial flexibility to pursue opportunities and grow your business.

What’s great is that they don’t do hard credit pulls; just one soft inquiry when you apply, saving you from potential credit score damage. Plus, they offer pre-payment discounts and the chance to increase your borrowed amount after paying at least 60% of the original loan, providing ultimate flexibility.

And, you’re free to use the funds for almost any business expense, whether it’s expanding your operations, hiring more staff, or investing in equipment.

6. Revenue Advances

Fora Financial com activate rewards

Fora Financial’s Revenue Advance is designed to provide flexible terms for businesses experiencing variable cash flow. With this option, you can borrow anywhere from $5K to $1.5 million against your future revenue.

The repayment structure is tailored to your business’s sales performance, making it easier to manage during both prosperous and lean times.

Here’s how it works:

  • Instead of fixed monthly payments, you repay a fixed percentage of your daily or weekly sales.
  • When your sales are booming, you’ll pay off your advance faster, but during slower periods, you’ll benefit from reduced payments (this gives you breathing room when you need to navigate challenging times).

In essence, this is a working capital loan or merchant cash advance. Again, I only recommend this type of financing if you have no other option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Fora Financial do credit checks?

Fora Financial conducts a soft credit inquiry when you apply for financing. This inquiry does not impact your credit score. However, they do not perform hard credit checks, so your credit score remains unaffected during the initial application process.

Is Fora Financial a direct lender?

Yes, Fora Financial is a direct lender. This means that they provide funding directly to borrowers without involving intermediaries or brokers. Working with a direct lender like Fora Financial can often streamline the loan process and offer more personalized service.

How do I get approved for financing with Fora Financial?

To get approved for financing with Fora Financial, you can start by filling out an online application on their website. Your personal credit score must be at least 500. The application process is straightforward and typically requires basic information about your business, such as revenue history and desired loan amount. Approval is based on various factors including your business’s financial health and creditworthiness.

Does Fora Financial report to credit bureaus?

No, Fora Financial does not report your payment history to major credit bureaus. This means that your loan with Fora Financial will not impact your business or consumer credit profile (unless you default on your loan).

Conclusion

As far as alternative lenders go, Fora is one of the good ones. While their rates are way too high for me to recommend the offer (I never recommend this type of loan unless the situation is so urgent and dire that there is no other choice).

This may seem like a natural benefit if you’re not versed in alternative loans, but the fact that Fora doesn’t have a prepayment penalty is fantastic – many online lenders will penalize you if you pay off your loan before the repayment date.

*Which is why it’s so important to read the terms and conditions.

Torro Business Funding

If you’ve come across Torro Business Funding, you may have been referred by a franchise or an Instagram influencer. And, they may be offering you the funds you need to start or grow your business…But, for some reason, you’re still wondering if they’re legit.

Here, you can find out what Torro Business funding is (how it’s different from a conventional lender), learn about the company, and explore what you can expect from their offer. You’ll even find answers to some common questions about this type of lending.

  • Conclusion: Is Torro Funding Legit?

Now, let’s dive in!

What is Torro Business Funding?

torro business funding for startups

Torro is known as a source of “startup capital” and “business capital” – they offer hassle-free financing solutions geared toward small businesses. Torro is an alternative financial service provider that specializes in addressing cash flow and working capital needs.

Unlike traditional banks and lenders, Torro offers a streamlined approach to access funds, and they emphasize the convenience and efficiency this offers business owners.

Whether you’re a post-revenue business seeking expansion or a pre-revenue startup in need of initial capital, Torro has tailored funding options to help you get cash to expand your business.

Interestingly, most of the small number of poor Trustpilot reviews seem to come from business owners who decided not to work with Torro after the initial consultation. Otherwise, they maintain a high rating on the platform (this is always impressive for a financial offer, as long as there reviews are real).

torro business funding reviews

For pre-revenue businesses — which includes startups, franchises, or those looking to purchase a business — Torro offers a three-step process to obtain unsecured working capital (startup capital) between $5K to $125K to kickstart your business.

For post-revenue businesses, Torro claims to simplify the process with a quick online application (business capital) to help you grow your operations with $5K to $725K.

Within their wide funding range, they seem to have something for everyone.

Torro Funding Requirements

Torro’s funding is considered working capital. With this type of loan, repayment can happen as a percentage of your daily sales, and is most often “factored.” Factoring involves selling accounts receivable to a third party (“lender”) at a discount for immediate cash, while interest loans entail borrowing a sum of money that must be repaid with interest over time.

So, working capital loans are kinda like a payday loan for business. Because of this, their requirements are a bit more lax than a traditional business loan.

When you come across an offer that seems like it could be too good to be true, it’s only natural that your hair would stand up on end. I never recommend this type of loan, unless a business owner absolutely has no other option. The reason is that they tend to be the quickest and easiest funding you can get, but they are more expensive.

Bear in mind, Torro is not the only alternative lender with relaxed requirements, and this isn’t a “scam,” it’s just a more expensive loan — i.e. not the most financially sound option you can take advantage of.

Company Overview

Torro small business funding

Established in 2015 and based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Torro LLC is an online funding platform, founded, owned, and managed by Cameron Montgomery. The company is in good standing with the Utah Division of Corporations and Commercial Code.

As the current CEO, Montgomery officially registered the company in 2012, and also does business as “The Broker Blueprint” – a training program that empowers individuals to become business loan brokers, connect borrowers with lenders, and secure financing for small businesses.

Is a loan shark a lender?

Prior to launching Torro, Montgomery didn’t share any work or education experience on LinkedIn.

Torro is accredited with and maintains an A+, 4.6-star rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). I almost never see any positive reviews on the BBB website, let alone almost 90 of them. I’ll leave you to your own discretion on this one.

What I can say is that there have only been 7 complaints with the BBB in the past 12 months – It’s not uncommon to see 50+ for a financial offer.

I found one thing particularly odd – the company seems to have two websites that are exactly the same – one is at torro.com and the other at gotorro.com. It doesn’t seem like one of them is fake (Trustpilot cites torro.com and Crunchbase cites gotorro.com), so I have no idea why this would be.

In all, Torro Funding has been in operation for nearly a decade, and they’re in good standing in the areas where it’s necessary. However, this isn’t the most transparent company I’ve ever seen — I would like to have seen more information about loan rates and terms on the company website and the founder’s previous experience on LinkedIn.

What Does Torro Business Funding Do?

In a nutshell, Torro small business funding is a means to get the capital you need quickly. Let’s take a look at their application process, speed of funding, and what you can expect from this offer.

Compared to other, comparable funding products, this one is pretty simple.

1. Quick, Online Application

Startup business loans with no revenue

Torro’s online application asks only for the basic info about your business, like name, years in business, and your personal credit score. Of course, they want your income and contact info, but the pre-authorization doesn’t require that you enter your social security number.

You can supposedly create an online account during the application process, but it has to be manually approved. This probably helps weed-out the people who are just here to spy, and aren’t actually interested in business capital.

After you apply, you should get a call back within one business day.

2. Funding Within a Week

With their proprietary QuickWrite® system, underwriting typically occurs within the same day, and approved businesses can access funding within 24 hours. To avoid unrealistic expectations, the video you’re taken to after you submit your application makes it clear that funding happens within a week.

This is pretty quick, as far as business loans are concerned, though there are competitors who offer funds with the same urgency.

3. Syndicated Investor Financing

Is equity funding good?

Torro has a network of investors who collectively provide the capital required by your business. Once the approval process is complete, these investors swiftly deposit funds into your bank account, often on the same day as approval, allowing you to utilize the funds immediately.

The loans are funded by a syndicated network of investors and financial resources associated with Torro – though, Torro doesn’t expressly state who these investors are. This is likely somehow related to Montgomery’s other program, The Broker Blueprint.

Conclusion: Is Torro Funding Legit?

Again, Torro Funding is meeting the necessary requirements for a financial offer:

  • Registered, active, and in good standing with the state of Utah
  • Good ratings on Trustpilot and BBB
  • Transparent ownership documentation

Plus, I like that they’re a privately-owned business, which has some appeal over doing business with a big bank (there are pros and cons to each.

Now, I would never step into a factored working capital offer unless it’s absolutely necessary — there are too many options that are much easier on your business budget. And, I wish there was more transparency into the loan rates and terms.

Whether or not this is an offer you want to take advantage of, I’ll let you decide.
